Families seeking gender-affirming care for their children are likely to face a fractured legal and health-care system in 2024 as Democratic-led states attempt to enact protections on treatments for gender dysphoria, policy analysts say.

This year saw a surge in states banning puberty-blocking drugs, hormone therapy, and other care for transgender minors, with 22 states now prohibiting at least one form of gender-affirming care, according to the Movement Advancement Project.
