Transgender Deputy Gets Partial Win on Genital Surgery Coverage

Houston County, Ga., and its sheriff’s office violated workplace sex bias law when they denied a transgender deputy medical coverage for feminizing genital surgery, a federal judge in Macon ruled.

That conclusion was dictated by the US Supreme Court’s 2020 decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, which held that discrimination based on gender identity is discrimination based on sex under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the US District Court for the Middle District of Georgia said.
