Toyota Unit Hit With Criminal Suit Over Emissions Statements

Japanese vehicle manufacturer Hino Motors Ltd. conspired to sell more than 105,000 heavy-duty diesel engines in the US that didn’t comply with emission standards, the federal government alleged in a criminal complaint filed Wednesday.

The company—a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp.—attempted to defraud the US by selling products that didn’t comply with American emissions requirements and submitted deceptive documents that omitted that information, the federal government said in the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
