Top Public Health Nominees Move to Full Senate on Bipartisan Vote

Two of President Joe Biden’s picks to take key public health leadership positions within the HHS will be considered by the full Senate after the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee voted to advance their nominations.

The Senate HELP Committee gave bipartisan support on the nominations of Vivek Murthy to serve as surgeon general and Rachel Levine as assistant secretary for health of the Department of Health and Human Services.

The vote in favor of Murthy was 16-6, while Levine’s nomination moved forward on a vote of 13-9.
