Tennessee Beats Challenge to Ban on Trans Birth Certificates (1)

Tennessee’s policy of refusing to amend the birth certificates of transgender people to match their gender identity doesn’t violate the US Constitution, a split Sixth Circuit ruled.

The US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit on July 12 affirmed the ruling of the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee granting Tennessee’s motion to dismiss because the state’s birth certificates are intended only to record the person’s genitalia at the time of birth.
