The Department of Health and Human Services is moving to permanently loosen restrictions on take-home drugs to treat opioid addiction that were eased during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nearly 2,000 programs and efforts at opioid treatment would be affected by the effort under the proposed rule (RIN: 0930-AA39) from the HHS’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The proposed rule was issued Tuesday.
The move by the Department of Health and Human Services marks the latest Biden administration effort at expanding efforts to curb US addiction deaths.
