Sutter Health, Welltok Hit With Lawsuit Over MOVEit Data Breach

Sutter Health and its contractor WellTok Inc. failed to protect the personal information of more than 845,000 patients that was exposed in a data breach connected to a May cyberattack upon Progress Software Corp.‘s MOVEit file-transfer app, a proposed federal class action said.

Amanda Copans alleged that WellTok, a provider of patient-communications services to Sutter Health, failed to implement security measures that are nearly universal among health systems, including storing data in secure offline locations, keeping up-to-date on security patches, using anti-virus applications to block malicious code, a requiring all workers to use secure online-communications methods.
