Sutter Health Systems will pay $575 million to settle claims that the health-care giant used its Northern California dominance to muscle higher fees.
Sutter, the largest health-care provider in Northern California, isn’t required under the proposed antitrust settlement to divest any holdings or admit wrongdoing. Class members will receive financial payments under a court-approved allocation plan, the Sacramento, Calif.-headquartered Sutter said. An outside monitor hired by Sutter and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra’s office will oversee for 10 years the terms of the deal, filed late Dec. 19 with the California Superior Court.
