Supreme Court Passes on ERISA Case Over Emergency Care Rates

The US Supreme Court declined to hear a case over whether federal employee benefits law supersedes state law in relation to rates for emergency medical services.

A collection of UnitedHealth Group subsidiaries petitioned the high court to overturn the Nevada Supreme Court’s June 2025 ruling for a group of medical providers owned by TeamHealth Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Blackstone Inc., after the court determined UnitedHealth was unjustly enriched by underpaying for emergency care.
