Stem Cell Researcher Loses Challenge to Firing in Federal Court

A Rhode Island hospital physician and medical school professor at Brown University who specialized in stem cell research can’t sue the hospital for alleged wrongful termination in federal court.

Damian Medici, fired for publishing articles containing allegedly misleading research results, didn’t implicate federal regulations governing institutions that receive funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island said June 3.

The court didn’t have jurisdiction over the case because there was no federal question involved, Judge John J. McConnell said in dismissing the complaint. ...
