States Sue HHS Over Order on Gender Identity in Sex Education

A coalition of states is urging a federal court to block the Trump administration from requiring them to eliminate “gender ideology content” from sex education materials to avoid losing millions in funding.

The order from the US Department of Health and Human Services is “a radical departure” from federal requirements under the federal Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) and the Title V Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program for states to provide medically accurate and culturally appropriate sexual health education content to students, attorneys general from 16 states and Washington, DC, wrote in their complaint.
