Stanford Hospital, Contractors Settle Data Breach Class Action for $4.1 Million

Stanford University Hospital & Clinics (SHC) have reached a settlement of a class action filed against SHC and two former vendors involved in a patient data breach that left encrypted information of thousands of emergency room patients online for almost a year (Springer v. Stanford Hosps. & Clinics).

Multi-Specialty Collection Services LLC (MSCS) and an MSCS contractor, Corcino & Associates, will pay more than $3.3 million to affected patients and their attorneys, according to an SHC statement e-mailed March 20 to Bloomberg BNA.
