Senior DOL Benefits Regulator Tim Hauser Retiring at Year’s End

A senior official at the Labor Department’s employee benefits regulator, Timothy Hauser, is retiring at the end of 2025 capping a nearly 35-year career at the agency, a DOL spokesperson confirmed Friday.

The Harvard Law graduate currently serves as the deputy assistant secretary for program operations at the Employee Benefits Security Administration, overseeing health and retirement benefits for thousands of employers and millions of people. EBSA regulates nearly 85,000 health plans, covering 69 million people and holding $255 billion in assets. The agency also oversees 765,000 private retirement plans containing $13.6 trillion in assets.
