Senators Urge Criminal Probe Into Ex-Steward Health Exec (1)

The Justice Department and the SEC should investigate former Steward Health Care CEO Ralph de la Torre, two Democratic senators said, alleging executives pocketed millions while driving the hospital system into bankruptcy.

Massachusetts Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey called for the prosecution of the fallen hospital system’s former chief executive a year after its bankruptcy filing. The request follows a unanimous contempt referral last year by the Senate after de la Torre defied a subpoena from the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
