Senators, Patient Groups Blast HHS Efforts on Organ Donations

Republican Senators Charles Grassley and Jerry Moran are worried the Biden administration is undermining the intent and spirit of legislation designed to revamp the nation’s organ donation and transplant system, echoing concerns also expressed by patient support groups.

The dispute comes at a tricky time for the Department of Health and Human Services, which is pushing for Congress to hike transplant system funding from $31 million to $67 million in order to implement changes envisioned under the new law, and the department’s own plan to modernize the troubled system.
