Senate Panel Advances Trump’s Choice for Interior Secretary (1)

A Senate committee on Thursday voted 18-2 to advance former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum’s nomination for Interior Secretary.

Burgum, a Republican who President Donald Trump also tapped to be his energy czar, is key to the GOP’s energy dominance agenda focused on removing all constraints to fossil fuels development while slowing expansion of renewable energy generation as much as possible.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said it’s remarkable that North Dakota’s tribes have supported Burgum’s nomination and cheered his support for widespread energy development.
