S.C. Hospital to Pay $7M to Resolve Medicare Billings Case

AnMed Health, a hospital based in Anderson, S.C., has agreed to pay $7 million to settle allegations that it overbilled Medicare for radiation procedures and other services (United States ex rel. Jainniney v. Anmed Health, N.D. Ga., 1:12-cv-2942, settlement announced 9/27/17).

Federal prosecutors alleged AnMed knowingly submitted upcoded radiation oncology, emergency department, and clinical service claims. The False Claims Act allegations at issue involved billing for services as if they were performed by a qualified practitioner or physician when such a provider wasn’t present.
