Rehearing Refused on Medicare’s Denial of Novel Vein Procedure

A federal appeals court declined to reconsider a case involving a vein clinic’s challenge to Medicare’s denial of coverage for an experimental vascular procedure, dealing a blow to providers seeking reimbursement for the therapy.

The US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit on Monday rejected Vein & Wellness Group LLC’s request for an en banc rehearing. The order followed its June decision that backed the Department of Health and Human Services’ refusal to cover a procedure known as “mechanical occlusion with chemical assistance.”
