Program Seeks Input on Use of MRI On Patients With Implanted Cardiac Devices

The Medicare program is asking for comments by July 28 on a new coverage analysis for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for patients with implanted cardioverter defibrillators or pacemakers who are in clinical studies.

The program posted a tracking sheet on its website June 28, and is requesting public comments on the evidence regarding the effects of MRI on health outcomes in patients with such implanted devices. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services anticipates issuing a proposed coverage decision at the end of December.
