Kraft Heinz Co., Mondelez International Co., Nestle USA Inc., and others allegedly deliberately designed and marketed ultra-processed food products to addict children by following tobacco companies’ playbooks, a new consumer lawsuit said.
“Never in American history have so many children been hooked on an addictive substance,” according to the complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Each packaged food company “targeted and continues to target children with their harmful UPF,” the complaint added.
