Popular acne-control skincare from social media influencers including Dr. Pimple Popper and major consumer brands like Proactiv were contaminated with some of the highest benzene levels in personal-care products when they were recalled in the US last year, according to previously unreleased results of government testing.

The amount of benzene in creams and lotions designed to help people get clear, healthy skin were as high as 15 times the level allowed by the US Food and Drug Administration in lab tests conducted after concerns came to light two years ago, according to federal documents obtained through a public records request.
