Pharmacists in Florida will be able to test for and treat strep throat, as well as help patients manage diabetes, under a bill signed Wednesday by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
The measure, HB 389, allows pharmacists to test for and treat other minor illnesses, such as the flu and minor skin conditions. Druggists also will be able to help manage chronic health conditions—including asthma, diabetes, and arthritis—in collaboration with physicians.
The expanded scope of practice takes effect July 1.
