Pfizer, BioNTech Blast Moderna’s Covid Vaccine Patent Claims

Moderna Inc. wrongly claimed ownership of the technology it used to develop the Covid-19 vaccine, Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE told a federal court in a legal clash between the vaccine titans.

A ruling in favor of Moderna could hold Pfizer and BioNTech liable for royalties on Covid-19 vaccine sales in the US.

“Moderna’s plan appears to be to co-opt the use of fundamental technology that Moderna did not itself discover, burdening research and development by other companies,” BioNTech and Pfizer told the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts Monday.
