Pain Doctor Convicted on Kickback, Fraud Charges

A pain management physician in Maryland faces decades in prison after being convicted in a $1.4 million fraudulent billing scheme involving kickbacks paid to a New Jersey lab.

Atif Babar Malik of Germanown, Md., was found guilty Oct. 27 on 26 felony counts after a 13-day trial, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland announced when court documents were unsealed Oct. 30 (United States v. Sherlekar, D. Md., No. 1:16-cr-324, 10/27/17).
