Ohio Six-Week Abortion Ban Temporarily Blocked by Court (1)

Ohio’s “heartbeat ban” banning abortion after fetal cardiac activity is detected has been temporarily blocked by a judge who ruled the state Constitution includes a “fundamental right to abortion.”

The order will be in effect for 14 days.

The case, brought by abortion providers in America’s seventh most populous state, was brought in a trial court in Hamilton County (Cincinnati) after the Ohio Supreme Court sat on an emergency petition from providers for weeks without acting.
