Ohio Seeks Medicaid Expansion Work Requirement

A subset of Ohio’s 700,000 Medicaid expansion population could be required to have part-time employment to keep benefits under a waiver the state filed with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The state estimates that its Section 1115 waiver program would require about 36,000 of its overall 704,294 Medicaid beneficiaries to find an average of 80 hours of work or schooling each month. The state estimates about half of these beneficiaries—18,000—would be kicked off the program for failing to meet this requirement, if the CMS approves the waiver. The waiver was filed April 30.
