Obama Alum Nominated to Oversee Pandemic Preparedness Agency

President Joe Biden plans to nominate Dawn O’Connell, an Obama administration alumna and leader in responding to emerging infectious diseases, to serve as the HHS assistant secretary for preparedness and response, the White House announced Friday.

O’Connell would responsible for leading the main agency within the Department of Health and Human Services that prepares for and works to stop pandemics and biohazard attacks. Within her purview would be the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, the agency that finances countermeasures against emerging diseases, including Covid-19.
