OakBend Medical Center is facing a class action over a ransomware attack and data breach that exposed the personal information of more than 1 million people, a new federal lawsuit says.
Ryan Higgs and Alissa Wojnar allege that the Houston-based hospital failed to take adequate measures to protect the personal information of patients despite being on notice that health-related information is often the target of cyber criminals.
The hospital also failed to provide patients and former patients with timely notice of the data breach or adequate information about what type of information was exposed, the lawsuit says.
