N.Y. Doctors to Pay $1.1M in Medicare Billing Case

Two doctors in the Long Island suburbs of New York have agreed to pay a total of $1.1 million to settle civil charges that they billed Medicare for unnecessary nerve conduction studies, the Justice Department announced Aug. 12 (United States ex rel. Hennessey v. Desail settlements filed).

In the pair of settlements, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Robert Maccone agreed to pay $818,000 and Vikas Desai $302,000 to resolve charges that they submitted thousands of claims for unnecessary nerve tests from Desai’s East Islip Family Care practice, also known as ...
