A federal watchdog agency wants the Biden administration to consider updating its regulations to clarify that nursing homes “must include emerging infectious diseases as a risk” to be accounted for in a facility’s emergency preparedness plan.
In a new report, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General also recommended that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services direct state inspection agencies to follow up with 28 nursing homes with potential deficiencies in infection prevention and emergency preparedness “to ensure that they have taken corrective actions.”
