Nursing Home Industry Applauds FDA’s Pfizer Vaccine Approval

The FDA’s full approval of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine was greeted warmly Monday by the nursing home industry, which must vaccinate all staff at its facilities or risk losing Medicare and Medicaid funding.

Medicaid pays for 63% of nursing home residents while Medicare pays for 12%, according to the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living.

The new vaccination requirement, which will begin in September, will apply to more than 15,000 nursing homes and as many as 1.3 million industry workers, according to estimates by the Biden administration.
