North Carolina Pill-Induced Abortion Dispute Delayed by Court

A hearing on whether North Carolina can place limits on using an abortion-inducing drug despite federal regulations allowing its sale nationwide will be delayed, a federal appeals court said.

The challenge to North Carolina’s restrictions on mifepristone won’t be resolved until after the court answers similar questions in a suit testing West Virginia’s limits on selling and using the drug, the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit said Tuesday. The court put the case in abeyance pending the outcome in GenBioPro Inc. v. Raynes, where it heard oral arguments in late October.
