North Carolina lawmakers urged a federal appeals court to allow state safety requirements on the use of an abortion drug to take effect, arguing that such limits aren’t barred by federal regulations that allow the medication’s sale nationwide.
The group, led by Speaker of the House Timothy Moore (R) and President Pro Tempore of the Senate Philip Berger (R), asked the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit Monday to reverse a district judge’s ruling that halted limits on prescribing practices for mifepristone, a generic drug used to end pregnancies at their earliest stages.
