No Enhanced Match for Partial Expansion Of Medicaid Under ACA, CMS Tells States

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Dec. 10 told states they will not receive enhanced federal funding if they decide to expand Medicaid at a level below that set in the Affordable Care Act.

At the same time, CMS said it will consider state proposals for a so-called partial Medicaid expansion under its authority to approve demonstration projects.

The CMS announcement, included in an 18-page frequently asked questions memo to state governors, answered a key question raised by states following the Supreme Court’s ruling in June that states could not be penalized if they declined to expand Medicaid up ...
