NJ Doctor Sues Insurer Over Breast Reconstruction Payment

A New Jersey plastic surgeon is suing a health insurance company on behalf of his patient for its alleged failure to fully reimburse her breast reconstruction surgery.

Dr. Ross Cooperman filed the complaint Oct. 22 against Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act after his patient, “LPH,” had both breasts removed to treat breast cancer and then reconstructed in 2018.

Cooperman alleges he submitted invoices for a total of $431,592 to Horizon BCBS, but the company only reimbursed him for $5,485.66. ...
