The NIH plans to offer diversity, equity, and inclusion grants that allow research institutions to conduct system-wide evaluations and address shortcomings they flag.
The grants have not been formally announced yet, but the National Institutes of Health has approved the concept, Marie A. Bernard, the agency’s chief officer for scientific workforce diversity, told Bloomberg Law. She expects the funding announcement to happen soon.
The new awards are part of a larger NIH effort to change the culture of biomedical research to repair longstanding inequities and address structural racism.
