New York Utility Says Queue for Large Power Users Has Tripled

The queue for power-intensive customers looking to tap into New York’s energy grid has surged as the boom for artificial intelligence and growth in large-scale manufacturing drive electricity demand, according to one of the state’s utility providers.

The subsidiary of National Grid Plc that serves parts of New York City, Long Island and upstate New York, has seen so-called large-load connection requests over the next five years jump to 10 gigawatts, said National Grid New York President Sally Librera, citing estimates from the New York Independent System Operator. The figure has tripled in just one year, she said.
