An upstate New York urgent care practice and its physician owner agreed to pay $110,000 to settle a health-care fraud case alleging they overbilled Medicare for medical services at four locations.
Mountain Medical Services PLLC and owner Michael Pond allegedly billed Medicare for services provided by physician assistants and nurse practitioners at the higher rates allowed when a physician is present to supervise the care, the Justice Department said June 28 in announcing the civil settlement. The practice had facilities in four New York locations in the Adirondack Mountains: Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Malone, and Massena.
