A New York ophthalmologist is accused of falsifying millions of dollars in Medicare, Medicaid, and other health insurance claims by exaggerating the complexity and cost of procedures and tests he performed.
Dr. Ameet Goyal of Rye, N.Y., was accused in an indictment unsealed Nov. 22 of consistently “upcoding” his services to claim higher reimbursements for procedures he had performed and billing for work he hadn’t performed at all, federal prosecutors said.
