New York Doctor Pays $1.1 Million to Settle Kickback Allegations

A New York physician will pay $1.1 million to settle allegations that he paid kickbacks and submitted false claims to Medicare for services provided to elderly patients in long-term care facilities, the Department of Justice said.

Dr. Rajendra Bhayani paid cash tips, excessive rent, and other improper remuneration to medical management companies to obtain exclusive access to residents of adult homes, the DOJ said in a statement released Tuesday.

The deal also requires Bhayani to enter into an integrity agreement and create a compliance program for his practice, New York Otolaryngology & Aesthetic Surgery PC.
