NEW YORK—A New York City podiatrist will pay $800,000 to settle a False Claims Act civil fraud lawsuit charging him with overbilling Medicare, prosecutors announced Sept. 22 (United States v. Chaimowitz).
The settlement, entered Sept. 21 by Judge Robert W. Sweet of U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, resolves a complaint filed eight days earlier charging the defendant, Chaim Chaimowitz, with seeking reimbursement for noncompensable routine foot care and billing for services that could not have been performed in the time period claimed.
