New Mandatory Compliance Programs Must Have Seven Elements, CMS Official Says

BALTIMORE—Mandatory compliance programs required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) for Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) must include at a minimum seven required elements, a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services official said at a Nov. 9 conference.

“Organizations must have written policies, procedures and standards of conduct that implement compliance operations and provide guidance to employees for dealing with potential compliance issues,” Vernisha Robinson, a program compliance specialist with CMS’s program compliance and oversight group, said at the Health Care Compliance Association conference.
