Liver Transplant Policy Can Take Effect During Court Fight (1)

The Health and Human Services Department can enforce its new policy for determining how and where donated organs are assigned to liver transplant patients while a challenge to the policy is pending in federal court, the Northern District of Georgia said.

Judge Amy Totenberg issued a ruling from the bench Wednesday denying a motion to block enforcement of the policy filed by transplant patients and medical centers where transplants are performed. Totenberg didn’t give any reasons for her decision, but said she would issue a written decision Thursday.
