New Jersey to Use $5 Million From Settlement to Fight Opioids

New Jersey will use most of a $5 million settlement in a lawsuit over a fraudulent opioids marketing scheme to fight opioid abuse, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal (D) said.

John N. Kapoor, the founder of Insys Therapeutics, will pay that amount to settle allegations he orchestrated a bribery scheme to boost sales of the company’s flagship opioid drug Subsys, Grewal said in a Thursday statement.

It’s the first settlement in the state’s civil lawsuits against corporations and executives involved in making and marketing opioids, the statement said.
