New Jersey will impose an Obamacare-like insurance mandate and take steps to buttress its health insurance marketplace under legislation signed May 30 by Gov. Phil Murphy (D).
The laws are the most recent example of a state taking action to preserve health-care benefits under the Affordable Care Act, which has been partly dismantled during President Donald Trump’s administration. The new federal tax law repealed the ACA’s individual mandate, which required that individuals obtain health insurance or pay a fee.
