New Florida Law Gives Patients ‘Right to Try’ Unapproved Treatments

Florida joined approximately 20 other states in enacting a “right to try” law that provides patients with terminal illnesses access to experimental treatments, after Gov. Rick Scott (R) signed the legislation into law on June 10.

House Bill 269 allows patients to request and manufacturers to provide drugs, biological products and medical devices that haven’t yet received approval from the Food and Drug Administration under certain conditions. The new law will take effect in Florida on July 1.
