Insurers in New York state are now banned from denying life insurance coverage just because the applicant has been prescribed medication Naloxone and Narcan, which are used to block the effects of opioids.
Legislation (A.5952A/S.3159A) signed Wednesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo outlaws as “unfair discrimination” the refusal to issue a life insurance policy or annuity contract, or adjusting the amount of premiums or rates solely based on an opioid overdose drug prescription.
