Missouri Insurance Director Announces Crackdown on Bogus Health Discount Plans

ST. LOUIS—The Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions & Professional Registration said Sept. 21 it has issued cease-and-desist orders and levied more than $1 million in fines against 14 companies and individuals in a crackdown on bogus health insurance plans being sold in the state.

The orders target 14 companies and individuals who have been defrauding consumers by selling them health discount plans that are designed to look like comprehensive medical insurance plans, according to a statement from the department.
