Michigan’s Abortion Access Amendment Survives Right to Life Suit

Anti-abortion activists, including Right to Life Michigan, can’t move forward with a lawsuit challenging a Michigan constitutional amendment that gives every person a “fundamental right to reproductive freedom,” a federal court said.

The various plaintiffs—including three state lawmakers, six individuals, and five anti-abortion groups— lacked standing to bring a suit alleging the provision violates multiple federal constitutional guarantees because none of them demonstrated they suffered an injury in fact because of it, the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan said Tuesday in granting state officials’ dismissal motion.
