Michigan Doctor Pleads Guilty to $33M Medicare Scam

A Michigan physician busted as part of the government’s “largest Medicare fraud takedown” could be sentenced to 20 years in prison this August, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit health-care fraud (United States v. Tariq, E.D. Mich., 15-cr-20351, guilty plea filed 3/25/16).

Muhammad Tariq, an owner of home health-care and hospice companies in the Detroit area, also faces a fine of least $250,000 for his role in a $33 million Medicare fraud scheme, according to sentencing documents filed March 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
